Description
Short answer: It’s great
Long answer: Giving Chase are a hardcore punk band from Philadelphia; their sound crosses lines from old-school hardcore and more modern skate-punk.
I must admit, I’m a sucker for this formula of music; the passionate vocals, the blazing guitars and galloping drums sounds like the perfect combination of a lot of sub-genre’s of music, it blends well together and Giving Chase pull this off effortlessly with the addition of some musical interlude’s with introspective lyrics. But it’s hard to say if they add anything new to the genre that has been perfected by bands like Shai Hulud or even labelmate Boy Sets Fire.
Giving Chase is the type of band that is always on the go – they’re energetic and passionate. Their songs invoke emotional reaction and deliver with just the right amount of aggression that makes their album stand-out amongst a sea of similar bands. When you’re this good, it’s easy to get noticed.
This isn’t some complicated concept album nor do you have to follow a story or wade through the artists pretensions – this record goes straight for the jugular and makes no apologies, so take that for what it’s worth.
go see them!
