Description

It seems these days that only talent flows out of the windswept foothills of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The City lies practically smack-dab in the middle of North America and servers as a cultural showcase for Canada’s talent.

Along with bands such as; Propagandi, The Weakerthans, A.A Soundsystem, Neil Young, BTO, Comeback Kid (check out the sights & sounds review) and the mother-fucking Guess Who, there is one other band to emerge from the cold-as-fuck Winnipeg streets: Burnthe8track.

Erupting with their 2nd album “Fear of Falling Skies” the band is still reacting to the wide recognition of their debut in 2004. They pick up where their debut “The Ocean” left off and provide an enjoyable experience – from start to finish.

Burnthe8track play a style similar to Sparta or even Billy Talent; Their punk-rock and indie influences shine through all over the disc and deliver heartfelt songs over some background screams and yelps that add to the fullness of their sound. That could be their only downfall though; the formula of rock with raspy vocals backing with some screams is nothing new and the disc starts to repeat itself as you make your way through it.

I wouldn’t start to dig through boxes and start to burn your 8 tracks yet (hardy har), this Winnipeg 4 piece is a true talent, they deserve to have their name listed among Winnipeg’s greatest achievements and we look forward to seeing more in the future.

Random fact: Winnipeg is the slurpee capital of the world!
