The Devil Wears Prada Interview E-mail
Thursday, 16 August 2007
After a couple of successful underground Rise Record releases, as well as successful stints on tours as large as Sounds of the Underground, Jeremy of TDWP took the time out to sit down for a few questions on the band and upcoming happenings.

L13: First off introduce yourself and tell us your role in The Devil Wears Prada.

TDWP: My name is Jeremy DePoyster, I play guitar and sing for The Devil Wears Prada.

L13: Your new album "Plagues" comes out on August 21st. Tell us a little bit abou the record and how hte recording process went.

TDWP: I think the new record is definitely a step forward for us. It's heavier at times than our old record, and we definitely matured a lot as songwriters and musicians. The recording process was pretty good, we had more time than our last record so that took some of the stress off. We got the drums done in the first couple days, then spent some time getting guitar sounds, etc. We changed a few parts, had a few fights, and goofed around a lot, which is usually how it goes for us ;] We posted a few studio updates on youtube that I think people thought were pretty funny.

L13: Being Rise Records shining star, how does it feel that you guys have basically brought the label back up on the map with your albums as well as the other artists the label has recently signed.

TDWP: Haha well that's a little flattering. It's a good feeling I guess, a large part of our decision to go to Rise in the first place was the fact that Fear Before The March of Flames was on that label, and that Craig was so stoked on our music, so it's cool that bands and kids now can look at the label and be stoked that bigger bands's NEW Cd's are coming out on Rise. Definitely an exciting time to be part of Rise.

L13: What's it like recording with Joey Sturgis? Being from the midwest and also being in a metal band, I know what it's like for many artists trying to frenzy into his recording schedule by any means necessary.

TDWP: Well we're good good friends with Joey, we met him at a show when we were just getting our feet wet in the scene and he mentioned wanting to record us. He had done a few other bands, and his stuff sounded way beyond any other studios we could afford or that were around us. He did our demo, which got us signed to Rise, and did our first album, which went on to do pretty well.. So we don't really have
any problem fitting into the schedule. It was good, I'm glad we got to work with him, and the record came out sounding much better and more solid than the first one.

L13: What do you have to say about the trend between Rise Records signing artists that record with Foundation Studios?

TDWP: Well, we were the first Rise band to do a record with Joey, and I think a lot of other bands were stoked on the fact that our record was recorded so well for so little. Joey does amazing work, and other studios in the midwest that charge maybe three times as much can't even touch it. He definitely made it easier for a coming-up band to have an awesome sounding demo or record, which in turn could catch the attention of a label looking to sing those up and coming band(Rise).

L13: Many webzines and publications report that you guys are Sturgis' claim to fame. How do you guys feel about that?

TDWP: I guess I'd agree with it, and it's awesome knowing that we helped him get his name out there. Joey does work that someone with his equipment, his budget, and his level shouldn't be able to put out. I mean, his records are in Hot Topic, Best Buy, etc. and his studio is based out of a garage. I think it was God that brought us both together, to be honest. We never would have had as good of a demo, and he wouldn't have had his breakout band, so it worked out for everyone.

L13: Would you admit that you guys were the first group that really got Joey on the map?

TDWP: As far as in the big leagues, I'd say so.

L13: Now you guys performed on this year's Sounds of the Underground, how did that treat you guys?

TDWP: It was definitely a learning experience. It was our first tour that was on that big of a scale. It started out a little weird, but was pretty good overall. There was some heckling, a lot of the metal kids aren't too into us or the fact that we're a Christian band, but we have amazing fans who came out every night and supported us. Some days were way too hot, some days were way too stressful, but it was fun. We made some new friends in Darkest Hour, Every Time I Die, The Acacia Strain, #12 Looks Like You, and a lot of industry guys as well.

L13: What was your take on Necro leaving the festival for crowds not taking too kindly to him?

TDWP: Necro had more guts than he's given credit for. He went out there and threw down every night, even though he was getting crap from the crowds. This just wasn't the tour for him, and he's actually a really cool guy to talk to.

L13: Did you guys ever have any troubles with the "death metal rapper?"

TDWP: No, he was nice every time I talked to him. Almost all the bands on the tour were really cool to us.

L13: What do you guys think about your guys' home state becoming one of the hottest states in metal as of late? With artists such as At the Throne of Judgement, From the Shallows, Woe of Tyrants and Brother Von Doom growing in popularity?

TDWP: I guess it's pretty cool. At The Throne are our bros, so I'm very happy for them, along with From The Shallows and Brother Von Doom.. It's good to see good music coming out of our state, but you know, we are the state that produced Hawthorne Heights, so we're used to putting out good bands ;]

L13: As for tours in the future you guys are heading out with Chiodos in support of both of your new albums, how do you think the tour will go with the guys in Chiodos?

TDWP: We are so excited for this tour. chiodos are great guys, I'm friends with all of them, in fact Craig did a song with us on our new record. Their fans and our fans usually fit together pretty well and are often the same kids, and every show we've played with them has been amazing. I'm very stoked for it.

L13: Both being from the midwest, have you guys had any run-ins with the group in the past?

TDWP: We've played maybe 6 or 7 shows with Chiodos before, we've stayed at Craig's house, a couple of them have come out to see us at shows. We're good friends with those guys..

L13: That about does it for us at Lucky13zine.com. we wish you guys the best of luck with your new record and your upcoming tour with Chiodos.

TDWP: Thank you, God bless.
