Description

When you think of Jim Ward (ex-At The Drive-In, Sparta) you think of energetic mainstream rock. What you don’t think of is classic 90’s American style rock. That’s exactly what his side project Sleepercar creates. With their debut album - West Texas - just around the corner; what is there to expect?

Well, I for one am not a huge fan of any type of classic American rock. Yes, call me unpatriotic, but it just doesn’t appeal to me in the least bit. I went into this album with very little to expect; I came out slightly surprised though. The album starts slowly up with track titled - “A Broken Promise”. The slow style country rock turns more into Death Cab For Cutie style vocals; which got me really excited to hear what the rest of the album had in store. While the album varies from different styles, it really stands out in the track - “Sound The Alarm” - in which anybody will love its catchy vocals and upbeat percussion work.

There are a few stand-out tracks to this album, but most of it doesn’t really cut it for me. I’m sure there’s a lot of indie fans out there that would sink their teeth into this album though. The fact that there were tracks that really slowed this album down to a crawl - “All Will End Well” - really made me get bored quickly. I’ll still give it a few more spins to see if I get into it. It’s still a really solid release with a lot to offer even if I personally don’t like it. I still recommend it to anybody though; it’s a different side of Jim Ward that most people wouldn’t have expected to ever hear.
