Description

Less Than Jake has become a household name in the ska genre for some time now. They return after slowly taking criticism from fans about losing their old school ska sound. According to the band they return to the more traditional sound in their latest album GNV FLA, which in other meanings is short for the band’s hometown; Gainesville, Florida.

Sitting through this album it brought me back to the Less Than Jake more people are familiar with. This also includes more horns than the previous couple releases by the band. The band has slipped back into their comfort zone without trying to overtake the pop-punk genre. Is that enough for newer fans to enjoy though? While not as catchy as some of their singles released last year, it defiantly has a lot of potential to convert newer fans and introduce them into what was once Less Than Jake. The concept of the album is a great one at that, returning listeners to the band’s past of playing at small gigs barely making enough money to get by and the overall complexes of a new coming band.

Any old school fan of Less Than Jake should check this out, especially if you were disappointed by their previous efforts. Now that they have found their way back to their comfort zone they should stick to it. Many bands have trouble transitioning to a different sound, and that’s nothing different for Less Than Jake. My final word is to pick the album up when it hits stores and have a listen for yourself; you’ll be filled with enjoyment of what the band used to be like.
