Description

I’m not sure the reason for the big push in indie acts these past couple of years. There have always been fans of indie, it’s just that their songs were never associated with Ipod commercials or car ads before anyone knew who they were. Indie, these days, has found itself as a brand of music, easily selling the times most hip and innovative products back to the very people that play in these kinds of bands. Ask indie outfits how many songs were written on their macbook’s or how many issues of Vice magazine they flip through when in-between gigs.

I don’t know if this is a positive or negative thing though, sure getting recognition for something is great, and so are residuals – but where’s the line? And how can bands make sure they don’t sell-out to hungry ad-men looking for the next biggest score (call up Fiest and ask).

We do have bands though, that enjoy straddling that line of obscurity and popularity and who are in it for the boner (or smile) that playing music gives people. One such band is Pomegranates, who just unleashed their debut full-lenth Everything Is Alive on Lujo Records.

The sound they create is rich and dynamic – after mostly recording the thing while all playing live, the record has electricity and a bit of grain to it. It’s not polished by deep pockets, it’s honest and has an innocent, care-free approach that kind makes you smile and appreciate.

Pomegranates, like the name suggest, are organic and fresh – They have no secrets and are here to make you enjoy music. The taste is certainly not bitter and what you see is what you get: A tasty fuckin’ band.
