Description

It’s not often that I get excited at my desk here at Lucky13 – Being in the tail-end of a troublesome Canadian winter, ending the final semester in University and day-to-day bullshit starts to wear you thin.

And then, Polar Bear Club released their full length on Red Leader Records March 11th. And all is well in the world and the sky opens up to the sunlight of spring and I can hear the birds chirp out my window and the girls wear less and less each day. I don’t know about you, but Polar Bear Club doesn’t conjure images of frozen tundra, to me, it’s all about the beach, the sweat on hard bodies…

Where do I start? Jimmy’s raspy vocals sound familiar (Hot Water Music?) but not overpowering; he still peppers the tracks with melody while the boys in the back deliver sublime post-hardcore hooks relentlessly. The best example of this is the second track “Hollow Place” and sweetjesus is it ever good – combining all the essential elements to a good time – layered guitars, rolling drums, perfect harmonies and more energy than a nuclear power plant is what Polar Bear Club is. They don’t so much make my foot tap then they do make my pants tight.

I am extending my e-thanks for PBC for writing a record that lives up to anyone who enjoys music with guts – real blue-blood musicianship here and it just oozes the shit.

For the love of the modern music, leave your house and see them live.
