Description
“Let’s follow our hearts and make something of ourselves”
It’s amazing how small bands can sound – with just 2 active members, Slingshot Dakota really sound like they have a whole team writing music for them.
What we have is a man on drums and a lady on keyboards rocking out to nicely crafted indie-pop that warms your belly with love – the title track “The golden ghost” is without a doubt my favorite of the album – it’s huge in sound and even has matt from Latterman doing the back-ups. Carly just sings from the heart “Home is where the heart is / and my heart is every highway, every city, every street corner that I have yet to see” while drummer pat (also from Latterman) bangs away in a heavy, hardcore-influenced beat that fills up the bottom-end of the song.
Slingshot Dakota, for those that are not familiar with their sound – think Moldy Peaches or Mountain Goats (but with a girl). They have this kind of innocence about their sound and musical content – it’s current and tongue-in-cheek as well as introspective and cerebral and who doesn’t love shit like that. Slingshot are at home when it comes to impressing people with material being used on an episode of The Simpson’s and the NBA’s marketing department which comes to no surprise.
It’s catchy-as-fuck feel good indie that will leave you tapping your foot and humming along during car-rides, subway rides, streetcar rides or anything else you might be doing. It’s so simple and so effective – there’s no bullshit here.
