Description
We’re off to the races with the Los Angeles’ outfit Get Set Go and with their new record in hand it’s sure to be a winner!
Ok, I couldn’t help myself – but seriously if you are looking for a wonderfully crafted pop-indie record look no further. Get set go remind me of the same kind of feel-good indie rock that Piebald started – it’s not as cheesy as Say Anything but GSG definitely have a sense of humor and it shows through their songwriting. The record is called ‘sunshine, joy, happiness : a tragic tale of death, despair, and other silly nonsense’ which is obviously a reflection of their tongue-and-cheek way of writing music, but that’s not to say they aren’t capable of producing heartfelt and powerful songs – Track 3 (I don’t have a tracklisting) is a fine example of a slower-paced, thoughtful song.
Head songwriter Mike-Tv has a Smokey and smooth voice that bounces over the simple ensemble – but the real power here comes from mike’s ability to craft intricate and meaningful songs that the rest of the band compliment, there are no guitar solos or any overpowering elements of Get Set Go and that formula works best and I think that’s why they are so damn loveable – they really do make you feel good and this is some dope shit to put on if you are woo-ing a girl, just so you know.
